Hey there Reader,
Shifting Gears: How Small Steps Create Big Momentum
Here we are—the last day of August. Can you believe it? The summer always seems to fly by.
Earlier this month, I shared a little challenge: to capture 25 intentional experiences before summer wrapped up. Maybe you did it, maybe you didn’t. Either way, here’s the thing: it’s never too late to live intentionally.
The goal was never about checking off a list or “finishing perfectly.” It was about creating small moments you can look back on with joy and pride—moments that become memories and momentum for what comes next. If you didn’t get all 25, maybe you got 5. That’s 5 more than you had before. That counts.
And it connects perfectly to what I want to share with you today: the power of micro moves.
We all know what it feels like to be stuck.
Maybe it’s in your work, maybe in a relationship, maybe in the limbo of “what’s next for my life?”
Sometimes it feels like quicksand—every step heavy, exhausting, and unproductive. I’ve been there, and I’ve watched many people I’ve worked with go through it too.
But here’s the good news: being stuck is normal… staying stuck is optional.
The way out isn’t about giant leaps or overnight change. It’s about small, consistent, intentional moves.
The tortoise wins the race—not because it’s the fastest, but because it’s steady.
That’s why my upcoming workshop, From Stuck to Steady: The Power of Micro Moves, is all about learning how to do just that—shift from overwhelm and inertia into clarity, confidence, and movement.
Today, I want to give you a taste of what this looks like with 4 simple strategies you can try:
4 Ways to Use Micro Moves When You Feel Stuck
- Start with your energy.
Before you “do,” notice how you’re showing up. Are you exhausted, tense, critical of yourself? A micro move could be a 10-minute walk, a short meditation, or simply giving yourself permission to rest without guilt. One of the most powerful moves you can make is choosing kindness toward yourself first.
- Shift your physical space.
Your environment influences how you feel. Open a window, clear your desk, light a candle, or rearrange a small corner of your space. A change in your surroundings creates a change in your state of mind.
- Anchor connection.
If you’re feeling isolated, commit to one small connection a day. It could be a text to a friend, coffee with a colleague, or reaching out to someone who inspires you. Human connection fuels resilience.
- Choose 3 small, clear actions.
Not 20, not 10. Just 3. Write them down and keep them doable. Maybe it’s making a phone call, researching one option, or journaling for 15 minutes. The win is in starting. Small, steady action compounds over time.
3 Questions to Ponder
- Where in your life do you feel “stuck” right now?
- What’s one small micro move you could take today to shift your energy?
- If you gave yourself permission to let go of others’ expectations, what would you choose for yourself?
Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.
