Hey there Reader,

What Mexico Taught Me: Vision Isn’t Enough. It Takes Action.

I just returned from a ten day trip in Mexico with my husband. It was not something I had personally sought out, and if I am honest, I wasn’t even sure it was the right move.

And yet, it was perfect.

There were no big plans. No busyness. Just time to rest, restore, and reflect. Time without the routines, roles, responsibilities, and dizziness of everyday living. When you step out of your home environment, something shifts. Whether it is Mexico or simply taking a day away in a park, a coffee shop, or a library, there is power in letting things percolate.

That is what this trip was for me. Unhurried time. Space to allow inspiration to come and go. To see what settles. To notice what keeps rising.

A few things became very clear.

One was that there had to be a deeper return to self. A deeper return to who I authentically am now. Not who I was trying to be. Not who I thought I should be at this age and stage. Not what others are doing. Not what others tell me I should want.

Who am I now?
What do I really want now?

Those are not easy questions. Clarity takes time. Rest can reveal forever if you allow it.

February, for me, was about alignment. Listening. Honouring. Not quitting. Just allowing.

But here is what I also realized.

Vision is not enough.
Clarity is not enough.
Rest is not enough.

At some point, it requires action.

We often stop taking steps forward because we think we need to know more. We think we need it all figured out before we begin. Hear this clearly. It will never all be known before you undertake the journey.

Never.

March feels different. Where I live, there is still crisp air and snow on the mountains, but the sun is shining. There is that sense of hope. Buds are beginning to rise in the garden. They are not open yet. They are just getting ready.

That is where many of us are.

Getting ready.

But getting ready is not the same as moving.

You do not need more motivation. You need movement.

The more you do, the more it starts to unpack itself. You begin to see what works and what does not. You notice where your energy comes from and where it drains. Confidence does not come from thinking. It comes from doing and refining.

It can be small.

Making the phone call.
Writing the letter.
Sending the email.
Cleaning out a drawer.
Investigating the opportunity instead of just thinking about it.

It is not cerebral. It is constructive.

I came back realizing that part of my peace in retirement mode had quietly become permission to hesitate. Permission to delay things I say I want to do. And so March, for me, is a month of deep action.

Not frantic action.
Aligned action.
Consistent action.

There is also an identity piece here. To have what you want, you must be clear about who you are as the person living that life.

If you want to write a book, you begin seeing yourself as a writer.
If you want a stronger body, you begin moving like someone who values strength.
If you want a different life, you start acting as if you belong in that life.

There is a mental shift. An emotional shift. A physical shift.

It is not Pollyanna thinking. It is commitment.

Sitting on the beach in Mexico, I watched the ocean roll in and roll out. The waves came crashing in with force, bringing shells, rocks, and sea life. Then they receded, taking some things with them and leaving others behind.

Life is like that.

Sometimes the waves crash. Sometimes they are subtle. Sometimes you feel thrown around. I experienced that too. At one point in the ocean, I was literally knocked into the sand by the strength of the waves. But when I found that sweet spot between where the wave was crashing and where it was just flowing, I could ride it.

That sweet spot is not accidental. You find it. You position yourself. You stay in it.

March is that invitation.

Not to be crushed by the wave.
Not to be swept away by it.
But to find your footing and ride it.

One other moment on this trip brought perspective. While we were near Puerto Vallarta, there was news of violence in the region. People reached out asking if we were safe. We were fine. I never felt afraid. It reminded me how quickly we can catastrophize, how easily we build a story that stops us in our tracks.

We do that in our own lives too.

Something bad happens and we fixate on it. We tell ourselves stories about how terrible things are. We allow it to define everything.

Perspective matters.

You are the one who decides how much something will shape your next step. You can get up, go for a walk, smile at a friend, pet your dog, sit in the sun, and choose to live in the present. I am sitting outside as I write this, feeling the sun on my face. It is beautiful.

So as we enter March, here are a few questions for you to sit with:

• What have you been “getting ready” for but not actually starting?
• Where are you waiting for more clarity instead of taking one small step?
• What identity do you need to step into now, not someday?
• What is one micro movement you can make today?

I am committing to daily prompts throughout March on my Marianne Preston Coaching Facebook page. Small, actionable steps. Micro movements that build consistency, confidence, and trust in yourself. If you are not following me you can. https://www.facebook.com/Marianneprestoncoaching

Not overwhelming.
Not dramatic.
Just steady action.

March is a season of renewal. The soil is being prepared. The buds are forming. Things are ready to open.

Let this be your month of movement.
Turn down the noise.
Stop resisting.
Try something slightly outside your comfort zone.

Vision is beautiful.
But action is what changes your life.

With warmth and belief in you,
Marianne

Giving and receiving love is never a bad thing. I am in a loving marriage and I enjoy the day. But it has changed for us over...
